Christmas Special – La Projecta El Salvador

15.11.24

The festive period is upon us and it is time to reveal our coffee choice for this Christmas. (Drum roll…)

This year, our journey has led us to a wonderful natural coffee from El Salvador that delivers depth and complexity.

We think it is a testament to the power of communities coming together to produce excellent coffee. It’s a sincere reflection of the holiday spirit.

This coffee, named La Projecta, is produced by various growers as part of a community project involving around 150 participants. The farm is situated in the Apaneca Ilamatepec Mountain Range, specifically in Canton Buenos Aires and Calzontes Arriba on the slopes of the Santa Ana Volcano. The harvest period extends from December to April, with farms located at altitudes ranging from 1,300 to 1,700 metres above sea level.

The project was initiated by El Borbollon to bring together small growers from nearby farms who possess high-quality coffee potential and wish to participate in a sustainability scheme. It began with 25 growers with average farm sizes of less than 5 hectares but has since expanded to approximately 150 participants.

These growers’ properties are situated at altitudes between 1,300 and 1,700 metres on the slopes of the Santa Ana volcano, one of El Salvador’s main coffee-growing regions. The community project was established with key objectives: To improve the living conditions of small growers by providing better market access and logistics. To foster a stronger sense of community among growers in the vicinity. To enhance the community’s knowledge of producing higher-quality coffees, thereby enabling them to gain more value from their products.
