Our Story

The Coffee Officina

Founded in 2013, The Coffee Officina is a speciality coffee roastery dedicated to high-quality, ethically sourced coffee. We roast with care to highlight the unique character of each origin, and we aim to make speciality coffee more accessible, enjoyable, and sustainable for everyone.

The idea behind The Coffee Officina began in 2011/12 with co-founders Marcella Fiori and Rory Lloyd, who brought together backgrounds in design and hospitality with a passion for great coffee.

Inspired by the growing speciality coffee scene and a desire to create something meaningful, they set out to build a roastery on their own terms, one rooted in craftsmanship, community, and quality.

Our Philosophy

We believe great coffee can be both exciting and approachable. From home brewers to cafés, we’re here to help people connect with coffee in a thoughtful way. Education, transparency, and ethics are at the core of what we do.

We love supporting community coffees, female producers, and cooperatives pushing boundaries in quality and sustainability.

We are inspired by travel, design, and the incredible people we meet in the coffee world. We don’t chase trends, we choose coffees that excite us and truly stand out in the cup.

Sourcing & Roasting

We work closely with trusted importers and producers, selecting coffees that are not only exceptional in flavour but also sourced with care.

Many of our coffees come from cooperatives, female-led farms, or certified by Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance, and Organic, but we also work beyond certification to ensure fair pay and direct support for producers.

All of our coffees are chosen through careful tasting, and roasted in small batches on our Giesen W15A drum roaster. Using Cropster software alongside hands-on quality checks, we ensure consistency and clarity in every roast.

Every coffee is treated with respect, honouring the hard work of the producer.

Whether it’s a balanced blend or a vibrant single origin, we always aim to highlight the best of the bean and its journey.

Our Team

We’re a small, dedicated team driven by a shared love for coffee. Our size keeps us agile, hands-on, and close to every order we send. We work closely with each of our customers to offer honest guidance and expert support.
